Acutely insightful and wise, four La Salettes began the groundwork in establishing private Catholic Schools in the southern and western part of Isabela Province as venues for evangelization especially of the young and provision for affordably quality basic and tertiary education.

The first school to be established was La Salette of San Mateo in 1949, followed by University of La Salette High School Department in 1951, the University of La Salette and La Salette of Aurora in 1952, La Salette of Roxas in 1957, La Salette of Quezon in 1960, La Salette of Jones in 1961, La Salette of Cabatuan and La Salette of Ramon in 1967. The educational institutions under the care of the Missionaries of our Lady of La Salette through the Ina ng Pag-asa (Mary, Mother of Hope) Province consist of the following: one University, eight High Schools and eight Elementary Schools.

In the early sixties, the functions of the Board of Trustees were left to the individual schools until 1968 when the Central Administrative Board was organized. The CAB, chaired by the Provincial Superior of the Philippine La Salettes and composed of all the schools directors and one representative of the Principals, acted as policy making body and performed coordinative functions.

In 1971, the Government decreed that all administrative positions in the school must be in the hands of Filipinos and every Administrator must hold a Masters Degree in Education. Although the implementation took effect only in 1977, the decree posed a serious problem to the CAB since most of the directors were lacking in degree qualifications. Only three schools had Filipino La Salette Priests as Directors and seven of them were concurrently Pastors. Furthermore, as far as degree qualification was concerned, only two had Masters Degrees: Fr. Efren Musngi, M.S., with an MA in Administration and Fr. Salvador Pico, M.S., with a degree in Guidance and Counseling.

Birth of the La Salette School System (LSSS)

As a solution to the problem brought about by the decree (Filipinization Law), a new administrative structure emerged, adopting the Superintendent concept. This model had only one Board of Trustees (BOT) for all the La Salette Schools as a policy making body, with a Superintendent who is directly under the BOT to oversee all schools. The priest/director who lacked the necessary degree was appointed as Chaplain/ Educational consultant.

From its fledgling beginnings in 1976-1977 to what it has become today, the La Salette School System with just one Board of Trustees for all eight schools withstood critical times and challenging problems that had strong repercussions on the continued operation and management of the schools. With God’s help and the ongoing support of many lay employees and supporters, we shall continue to offer the best educational environment possible for our thousands of students.

Vision Statement: The La Salette School System envisions a community living in freedom and fullness of being, fully reconciled to self, others and to God.

Mission Statement: Moved by the La Salette spirituality and devotion, we, the members of the La Salette School System, commit ourselves to (a) practice Christian leadership in the community, (b) evangelize focused on Christ’s redemptive love, and, (c) promote the total development of the person.

Philosophy of Education: La Salette Education is an ongoing process of growth in freedom and in fullness of being, prepared for, lived and experienced by the entire school community, realized in the reconciliation and integration of Filipino cultural values and those of Jesus Christ who came "so that they may have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10).
