January 1, 2012: The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of the Lord (cycle B)
The shepherds went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
For your reflection:
• At La Salette, Mary brought to the two children, to their families, their neighborhoods, and the Church at large, a message of reconciliation, of beginning anew to take our faith more seriously. As we begin this New Year of Our Lord, what one thing can we do to strengthen our faith? Perhaps it might be holding ourselves to be more faithful to daily prayer or to Sunday Eucharist, or even to being faithful to coming Lenten observances. Perhaps we can reflect on one or another of these ideas on this Feast of the Mother of God – our example, our Mother.
