We Would Love
to Keep in Touch!

Dear friends of La Salette:

We believe that you are aware that the La Salette Family in Mozambique, represented by the Provinces of Angola and Brazil, ... has undertaken a new mission since the month of May of this year of 2022: the Parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Mieze, in the Diocese of Pemba, in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.

African La SaletteWe believe that this is a wise and timely decision because terrorism in Northern Mozambique continues. The mission of Nangololo, which La Salette had taken over since December 2017, is geographically part of the area where terrorism is still devastating.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Mieze is one of 22 parishes in the Diocese of Pemba. It was created in 1967 by Bishop José dos Santos Garcia, a Portuguese Missionary of the Good News, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Pemba. The Parish is formed by 13 communities and is located at the entrance of the city of Pemba.

The cost of living for the population is precarious. The faithful of the Parish, for the most part, live off agriculture. It is a rural village, despite the fact that it is close to the city of Pemba. The Parish has a secondary school, a nursery school, a priests' residence, an annex for candidates or minor seminarians, a Center of the Association of the Diocesan Caritas of Pemba.

From its foundation until today the Parish has had the following pastoral agents: Missionaries of the Good News (Portuguese), Secular Priests of Pemba, Sisters of the Good Shepherd (Italian), Sister Servants of Our Lady of the Annunciation (Brazilian) and Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette (Angola and Brazil).

May Our Lady of La Salette continue to enlighten the La Salette apostolates around the world.

Fraternally,
La Salette Frs. Edegard Silva Junior of Brazil, Heliodora Santiago of Angola, and João da Silva Holek of Brazil
Diocese of Pemba, Mozambique
